Five
Ways to Keep In Touch with Your Child's Teacher
Our
kids have been in school for over three weeks now. Do you
know how to get in touch with your child's teacher? Here are
a few easy ways you can stay in touch.
1.
Write a note. Most often, the best time to meet with your
child's teacher is right after school. If you have a question,
or want to meet with the teacher, or need to set up a phone
meeting, send your question or request in a note with your
child indicating you'll need a response at the end of the
day on how to proceed.
2.
Schedule a meeting. Sometimes you can't wait for the parent/teacher
conference. Most teachers try to make themselves available
either before or after school, or during lunch. Teachers are
working parents too. So they will be sensitive to time demands.
3.
Get the teacher's home number or email address. Some teachers
don't mind giving out their home number as long as when you
contact them at home it is an emergency. Let the teacher know
you understand this condition and you'll keep the information
in confidence.
4.
Volunteer. If you can, find time to help out in the classroom.
If not in the classroom, volunteer to help out at school functions,
field trips or special occasions. If you can't get away during
the day, volunteer to do work from home such as calling parents,
collecting materials for school projects or assembling books.
5.
Attend School Activities. Kids and teachers alike love
a good turnout for school activities. Show up whenever you
can to show appreciation for their hard work.
6.
Propose a Special Program. If you have a unique skill
or interest you'd like to share with your child's class, or
maybe just talk about your career, offer to come by and visit
with the class. The teacher will love it and it will give
you an opportunity to know each other better.
