The Importance of Art in Children's Education
Imagine the world without the arts? No paintings, music, movies, novels, what would our culture be without the arts? The importance of art in a child's education is undeniable, however art education is on a decline. Therefore, it is often up to the parents to be art educators. Art has proven to keep children in school, provide motivation, and help children better understand the world in which they live in. Thus, parents must be equipped with the tools to expose their children to the arts.
Art is a universal language that has stretched over several generations and cultures. Often the best record we have of the past is the art that has been left behind. The visual arts, drama, literature, and music enhance the awareness as well as the understanding of other cultures, both of the past and present. Therefore, enabling children to better understand and communicate with others. Children learn to appreciate the diversity amongst others. One of the best ways for a parent to expose children to art is the museum. Often museum exhibitions communicate the past, present, and the future of different cultures, through paintings, pottery, clothing, and other artifacts.
Communication is an important step in a child's development and is an integral part to a child's education. A child's participation in both theatrical and music programs has proven to enhance a child's social skills as well as better develop their language, reading, and writing skills. Therefore, art enables children to learn better.
Motivation is key to keeping children interested in education. Art enhances a child's experiences in several areas of learning, including: math, reading, and writing. Art encourages us to stretch the limits of our imaginations, thus creating new problem solving skills and critical thinking. Participation in the arts makes education more interesting, therefore motivating children to stay in school.
Once again, imagine the world with out art. Unfortunately, if children are not receiving the art education that they need, this may become a reality. Parents must make an effort to expose their children to the arts, be it a play, a ballet, or a museum, children need the arts. Art improves children's motivation, encourages self-discipline, and open-mindedness. Art is important to every child's education.
