Beware
of Identity Theft
Experts estimate
that annually more than 900,000 people are affected by identity
theft.
Follow these five easy steps to protect your personal information
and credit history:
1. Experts recommend
that you review your credit report twice a year to see if there
are activities, accounts or addresses you don't recognize.
2. Using your
social security number as a way of identifying yourself is a big
no, no. Never give it to someone who calls you on the phone, or
print the number on your checks.
3. Shred everything
that will help a person replicate your identity. For less that $25
you can buy a paper shredder that will help destroy your important
papers.
4. Select a
password on personal accounts without using your mother's maiden
name.
5. When paying
credit card statements by check, don't list your account number
on the check.

you suspect your identity has been stolen contact your local police,
credit agencies and the Federal Trade Commission at www.consumer.gov/theft.
