Alleviating 4 Common Pregnancy Discomforts

Morning Sickness
Relief: As soon as you awaken, eat something. During the day have small, frequent carbohydrate snacks such as fruit or crackers, and avoid hunger.

Heartburn
Relief: Avoiding certain foods such as fried, high in fat or highly processed food including hot dogs, salami, sausage and bacon. Stay away from marbled cuts of beef and pork like rib steak and spare ribs. Heavy creams, carbonated soft drinks, coffee and alcohol will contribute to heartburn as well. Make sure you wear clothes that have ample room at the waste, and sleep propped up.

Swelling
Relief: You don’t want to eliminate salt from your diet all together, but you will need to avoid high salt foods. It’s best if you talk to your physician about water retention relief.

Leg Cramps
Relief: Always consult your doctor, but sometimes increasing the intake of calcium and potassium will help. You can always elevate your legs and apply a heating pad to alleviate some of the leg discomfort.

Relief tips were provided by the makers of Carnation Nutritional Products.
