Love Is In the Hair Fundraiser for The Heart Gallery of Tampa Bay
Feb. 19, 2010
The Heart Gallery of Tampa Bay, a traveling portrait gallery of children in foster care needing a permanent home, teamed with Tribeca Colorsalons in February for a co-promotion of the gallery and simultaneous fundraiser for it called “Love is in the Hair.’ A highlight was on Feb. 19 when salon owner Brandon Wagner hosted a hair, makeup and nails makeover at his Centro Ybor location for four foster teens who were getting their Heart Gallery portraits done. The Heart Gallery is sponsored by the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County and Hillsborough Kids, Inc. Clearwater Jazz Holiday
October 2009
The 30th Anniversary Clearwater Jazz Holiday was a phenomenal success.
There were 4 days and nights of free jazz and enjoyed by all. Al Jarreau, Chris Botti, Boney James and The Neville Brothers were the stage headline. The ParentGuideâ sponsored the kidszone and provided entertainment for families in the kidszone area. Entertainment was provided for the whole family with help from our friends from Dunedin Fine Art Center.

Clearwater Jazz ‘n Art Walk
October 17 &18, 2009
The second annual Clearwater Jazz ‘n Art Walk was spectacular. Held in downtown Clearwater, local artists and vendors showed their artistry and goods. Entertainment and performance line up included The Hy Notes, The Alan Dancy Experience, Level 10, Ruth Eckerd Jazz Lab Band, The Bus Stop Band with Chello and much more. Mimes roamed the grounds while circus arts were performed. Hundreds of families came out to enjoy the crafts and entertainment.

Safety Harbor ~ Harbor Sounds
October 3 and 4, 2009
Harbor Sounds was a fun event for families and their children. ParentGuideâ provided the Family Fun Zone and free make and take crafts. Everyone enjoyed sampling of food from many of the Bay Area’s local merchants. Vendors from every retail imaginable from the arts and clothing to jewelry from around the world. The variety of live music shows what talent we have in Tampa Bay.

Girl Scouts

The Girl Scout event at Brooker Creek Preserve was everything about becoming an Eco-Hero. There were activities on ways to recycle, green your lunch, reduce your carbon footprint, conserve water, eat smart, save energy and more. Michealmus

The Michealmus Festival at Suncoast Waldorf School was enjoyable for the students, their families, and local community. Everyone enjoyed apple bobbing and taking part in making cornhusk dolls, and much more. Tours of the school took place with anticipation of new student enrollments. Movies on the Waterfront

Every 3rd Saturday of the month the St. Pete Pier provides Movies on the Waterfront. On Saturday, September 19th the families enjoyed the movie Barbie and the three Musketeers provided by Kids First. The St. Pete Pier and the ParentGuide® provided princess tiara’s and Miss Toni and The Macaroni band helped the kids make noodle necklaces. The Band jammed with songs like In the Morning, Macaroni and Cheese, and Voices are Off and the kids danced to the beat. It was fun for the whole family

University Mall Back to School
August 22, 2009
The Back to School Shopping event at University Mall was a real blast for
young preschoolers, to the tweens and teens. The little ones really liked
Baby Loves Disco and the Maya and Miquel Meet and Greet. The Teens enjoyed
seeing all the back to school fashion. Everyone took part in the crafts
from making hats to decorating bookmarks. The families did it all,
including dancing and playing Maya and Miguel, too. Thank you to University
Mall, and the Cox Radio Stations which include 101.5 The Point Radio, Magic
94.9 and 105.5 The Dove for making the event great fun for all the families
that came out to visit.

Family Flicks at Dunedin Fine Art Center

Every 2nd Sunday of the month the Dunedin Fine Art Center provides Family Flicks. On Sunday, August 9th the families enjoyed the movie Phappahooey Island: What about Me provided by Kids First. The Dunedin Fine Art Center and the ParentGuide® provided make and take crafts about the movie’s lesson on friendship, love and working together. Mark the Balloon Guy was on hand to create some fantastic balloon hat artistry for all the kids.

Singers, marchers, face painters, food, mascots and characters and so much more made for a great morning out. Tampa Yankees Back to School
August 8, 2009
The day wouldn’t be complete without a Tampa Yankees game. It was the Tampa Yankees vs. the Clearwater Threshers. The Tampa Yankees provided their first annual Back to School Bash at the George Steinbrenner Stadium on Saturday August 8th before the game started. The first 250 kids received backpacks. Families were patiently waiting hours before the gate opened to get their backpacks. Once in the concourse kids enjoyed games, inflatable, tattoo arts and crafts provided by the ParentGuide®. Parents got tons of information on local Magnet Schools from the Hillsborough County School System, area Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union provided information on kids savings programs and BizKids- a WEDU initiative, and the ParentGuide® gave out information packages on back to school.

The Elena Tresh Foundation presented Snow Spectacular at the Safety Harbor Sports Complex. Hundreds of families came out to romp around in 25 tons of snaow and enjoy crafts and carnival games.

Christmas in July at Highland Aquatic Park was a huge hit with the kids. The families watched “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” while floating on rafts. Clifford the Big Red Dog and the Grinch were there to greet the kids.

Biz Kids from Mort Park
This group of children completed 3 weeks of Biz Kids training with Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union employees Juli Lewis & Chris Townsend. The kids learned the basics about money and entrepreneurship. Each child was part of a group that formed their own small business. All the business entities created a name, a product to sell, marketing ideas and a business plan. A small budget was supplied by Hillsborough County Parks & Rec and Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union for start-up inventory. The kids debut their businesses at University Community Center on Thursday, July 16th. Each group made an average of $45.00 in just a little over an hour! Our hats go off to these young entrepreneurs.

STOMP

ParentGuide® was thrilled to be on site at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center with the award winning cast of “STOMP”, an explosive and utterly unique live show appealing to audiences of all ages. The troupe used everything but conventional percussion instruments filling the stage with magnificent rhythms, occasionally involving the audience in creating the “music”.

Hurricane Expo

ParentGuide attended the Tampa Bay Hurricane Expo to pass out important information to parents on how to talk with children about hurricanes and how to prepare for their needs. Adventures Beyond the Books (Krystal and Jay) brought their special pirate show to entertain children and help spread the safety and preparation message. Reading stories to children is a great way to teach them about difficult subjects. A special thank you goes to Myrtle Avenue Pediatrics who donated soap and lotions to be packed in hurricane emergency kits.

The largest Summer Camp Expo was hosted by The Marcia P. Hoffman Performing
Arts Institute at Ruth Eckerd Hall. It was a day filled with face painting,
make and take crafts, camp vendor information, activities and
demonstrations, and live performances with the students of the Hoffman
Institute. In addition, families were invited to the Bob the Builder show.
